How does it work?
When you download and install the toolbar, you are given a unique ID code which is placed into our database and your computer's registry. This ID code is used to provide you with only the options that you choose. The toolbar will send its ID code to our site once approximately every ten minutes to see if there are updated items to place in the toolbar for you to see. It does not follow your browsing habits or identify you personally to anyone, including us.
What do we collect?
Collecting information provides specific benefits to our website visitors. The information we learn from customers helps us personalize and continually improve your experience with us and with the digitizers who advertise their designs through our site. With it, we can take care of customer service issues, and even tailor the site to your specific desires.
- Our web server, like every other web server on the Internet, logs your IP address and what pages you visit on our site. With that information we could build a path of your visit through the site. This information is aggregated (combined with the same information of all of the other visitors to the site) by our site statistics software and then destroyed every hour.
- Your toolbar contains a unique User ID which matches an entry in our database. We use this ID to tailor the information presented to you by the toolbar.
What about cookies?
Our website uses cookies. A "cookie" is a small text file that contains a string of alphanumeric characters. There are two types of cookies that may be used on a website: a persistent cookie and a session cookie. A persistent cookie gets entered by your Web browser into the "Cookies" folder on your computer and remains in that folder after you close your browser. Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the site to do things like keep you logged in to the site. A session cookie is held temporarily in your computer's memory and disappears after you close your browser or shut off your computer.
Our website only uses session cookies. While the cookie is automatically set for all visitors it is only used or referenced when digitizers log in and use our digitizer functions. Our adserver also uses cookies that manage how ads are shown on the site. For the user, this is a very good thing because advertisers want their ads seen by an individual a certain amount of times. But not too many times. If the cookie is deleted, there is no way of knowing how many times the ad has been seen, therefore, it will be shown everytime a person looks at the page. The net: with cookies, you see less ads; without, you see ads all the time. These cookies appear as "ads.whizardries.com" followed by "phpAds_" and then various letters and numbers. Finally, we are currently using Google Analytics to help us evaluate advertising methods. We have received reports that Google is also trying to set a cookie.
